GOING BEYOND THE ORDINARY.

We’re not content with the usual – we’re committed to exploring uncharted sonic territory to make your work truly unforgettable. But even as we push the boundaries, we always stay true to our roots.

Meet the team

Thom began as a professional brass musician before trading symphonies for the sound stage at Fox Studios. After honing his skills on the lot, he went on to co-found Folklore. He’s always on the hunt for those tiny, elusive details that can make or break a soundtrack. Thom is the faithful co-pilot you’ll want on your side when taking your audience on an emotional rollercoaster to laugh, cry, and jump out of their seats. He is dedicated to delivering you the unexpected, with old-school service built on respect, warmth and compassion.

Sam

Sam is one of the busiest sound supervisors in the country, working his way up from assistant to sound recorder, editor to mixer before co-founding Folklore. He’s immensely proud of the enduring, talented and tight knit team and believes it’s those skills that ultimately lead to the satisfaction an audience feels when hearing one of their soundtracks. Sound is the one universal language that can connect with a global audience, and he looks forward to continuing to contribute to the fabric of Australian Arts culture.

Ben

For the past 20 years, Ben’s been the friendly, loveable guy you turn to in the audio production and music scene. From live sound to studio albums, to advertising, movies, and TV – you name it, he’s done it all. Don’t be fooled by his easy-going nature, Ben’s thirst for knowledge and adventure has made him one of the most well renowned maestros in recording and mixing. As Folklore’s Head of Sound he’s the guy who lives on the edge of artistry and technology.

For Thalia, it all began with a deep love for music, but it wasn’t long before the siren call of post-production pulled her in. Her love for the world of post goes beyond sound design and mixing — it’s about solving problems creatively, elevating emotion with tiny elusive details, and learning and working with others who care deeply about the craft. Every project brings a new set of opportunities, creative challenges, and personalities, which she thrives on. She’s driven each day by the chance to work alongside curious creatives who are making their mark in film on a global scale.

Dan

Dan’s focus as a Sound Designer is to use sound to help tell the story, not get in its way. Over the years, he’s worked on a diverse range of projects, though is perhaps best known for sound designing all 154 episodes of Bluey, and for voice acting the role of Uncle Stripe on the show, which you can hear more about here. When he’s not scouring local op-shops for unique Foley props, you’ll find him, microphone in hand, hiking through the suburban bushland or knee deep in a flowing creek, recording the beautiful sounds of his environment. It’s the real-world sense of space and feeling these sounds possess that, when woven into the mix, will help immerse you in the story.

Rose found her way into sound through the stage door — literally. A lifelong theatre kid turned Production all-rounder, she brings warmth, intuition, and get-it-done energy to every project. As Sound Producer at Folklore, Rose thrives on ticking off lists, keeping things moving, and making sure both clients and creatives feel supported every step of the way. A seasoned traveller, Rose still finds joy in discovery — whether it’s a great story, a small win, or a fresh perspective. She shows up with authenticity, believes in doing things properly (with heart), and brings an ease and enthusiasm that lifts the room.

Kyra is the quiet powerhouse making things happen behind the scenes. As Folklore’s Post Production Coordinator, she keeps projects moving, people informed, and everything in check — all with a steady calm and a sharp sense of humour and organisation. Whether she’s solving problems, juggling schedules, or making sure clients feel supported, Kyra brings a rare mix of creativity, precision, and unflappable energy. Outside the studio, you’ll find her doing aerial arts, painting, or snuggled up with her cats and a guilty-pleasure TV binge. She’s driven by a purpose to reduce stress for others — and always thinking a few steps ahead, both in life and in post.

Jacob is the steady hand behind the scenes at Folklore — making sure the studio runs like clockwork and every session starts at the right cue. As Sound Assistant, he brings calm under pressure, a quiet confidence, and an uncanny ability to remember your coffee order. Whether it’s prepping rooms, wrangling mics and gear, or making clients feel at home, Jacob plays a key role in delivering the premium experience Folklore is known for. An emerging sound designer with a deep love for the craft, Jacob is building his skills from the ground up — gaining hands-on experience across projects and learning from the best. Fuelled by curiosity, collaboration, and always ready for a great story or a grand adventure, he’s quietly levelling up every day — one quest (or cable) at a time.

Care. Quality. Humanity.

We’ll never stop striving to elevate our craft, our client’s vision, and our community. Joining our thriving creative community (including industry-leading post-production studios, freelancers, and foley stages across the globe) means you never have to compromise on quality, and your project will always get the care and respect it deserves.

What’s in a name?

Folklore, by definition, means: customs, and stories of a community, passed through generations by word of mouth. And we believe it’s the way you tell a story, that gives it longevity. Sound is an emotive sense that cuts through language and personal context. It speaks to you in a way, that no other medium can. There is one common thread in each and every one of our projects: our service and dedication to the art of storytelling through sound.

Through the ages...

“Working with Folklore Sound has and continues to be a delight with each and every project, always delivering in quality far beyond what was dreamed possible. Their creativity and technical prowess never ceases to amaze me and I absolutely cherish and rely on their collaboration more than I can express.”

“Folklore step into the role of true champions and collaborators. Their work goes far beyond the brief, delivering innovation, solutions and creative excellence in everything they touch. Working with Folklore means handing over many of the unknowns that can come with bringing a new project to life - at every step of the journey, they’re going to find a way to make the results exponentially better than you’d hoped for.”

“Thom Kellar and Lachlan Harris crafted a masterfully rich soundscape for my short film “Nursery Rhymes,” complete with ADR, foley and 5.1 surround mix. The film’s single-shot approach relied heavily on Folklore to immerse the audience in a deeply harrowing atmosphere and I owe much of the films success to the team's artistry and tireless effort.”

Let's make
some magic.

Always was, always will be.

Folklore Sound acknowledge the Turrbal and Jagera people as the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we operate, and that sovereignty has never been ceded. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.

We respect that First Nations People have a deep connection to this land, and appreciate the enduring role that art has played on these lands for countless generations, spanning thousands of years. It is a privilege for us to collaborate with artists who carry on the rich creative heritage of one of the world’s most ancient and thriving cultures.
