Beat Bugs is a children’s animated series following the charming and humorous adventures of five bugs who live in an overgrown, American backyard. The show creatively integrates popular Beatles songs into the storyline of each episode, using reimagined recordings by an array of modern artists.
We worked closely with award-winning Sam Hayward, the project’s Sound Supervisor and Re-recording Mixer, along with the American music recording and mixing team. Given the show focused on music by The Beatles, the entire soundtrack had to be executed perfectly. We had countless peer review sessions where the whole team gave multiple rounds of notes on every episode, refining the mix repeatedly to ensure it was in the absolute best shape possible before it left the building.
Sound design from a smaller perspective.
The story was largely told from the bugs’ point of view, which meant the world around them was huge. Humans were giants who needed enormous, thunderous footsteps as the bugs navigate the human world through action-packed sequences. The execution of this aspect made us extremely proud of what we’d achieved.
Folklore Sound acknowledge the Turrbal and Jagera people as the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we operate, and that sovereignty has never been ceded. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.
We respect that First Nations People have a deep connection to this land, and appreciate the enduring role that art has played on these lands for countless generations, spanning thousands of years. It is a privilege for us to collaborate with artists who carry on the rich creative heritage of one of the world’s most ancient and thriving cultures.
